goat milk yogurt

Postby alise on Thu Feb 18, 2016 11:05 am

Is there a secret to make yogurt using goat's milk?

I've tried 2 batches so far. The first time it did not set at all. I thought the yogurt I was using for starter must be old although the expiration date on container was Mar 2016. I tried another batch using fresh yogurt & it was only semi set after 12 hrs. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Goat milk is not a big seller, it may be ultra-pasteurized to extend shelf life. That makes it almost impossible to make yogurt from. Check your goat milk carton. If the milk is strait from the goat, obviously that's not the problem. :D Good luck.

The Goat milk is ultra pasteurized but so is the Cows milk & I've had no problem making yogurt from it. I've only had a couple times the regular milk didn't set.

thanks for your reply.

Adding powdered milk helps cows milk set more completely when making yoghurt. I don't know of an easy way of doing that with Goat's milk as I don't think I have seen powdered Goat's milk not that I have ever looked for it.....
