My raw milk attempt was a failure. When I opened the mason jar to pour it into a strainer over a bowl, the smell was awful and overpowering. I still tried straining it, but decided eventually to just toss it out. I had some whey in the fridge that I had made from commercial yogurt, and the difference in smell was enormous. The yogurt whey was sour, but ok. This raw milk whey was nasty.
Thanks for the tip about covering it with a cloth. I had it tightly closed in a clean jar. I will try a bowl with cloth cover next time.
