Spelt Sourdough Starter

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has experience with starting a sourdough with spelt. I made one, but it got super liquidy/thin. Way thinner that what I've seen on videos. Is that normal? I used equal amounts of water and flour. It bubbled and smelled nice too.
