Newbie her

Postby Sparky on Mon Feb 10, 2020 6:21 pm

I just found a youtube video from Mary's Nest. It opened the world of fermenting food to me. I am not totally new, because I made wine at home for many years.

I'm getting old and need a new approach to eating more healthy. I'm going to start by doing dill and sweet piclkes. Are there special types of cucumbers I should be looking for? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Wild Fermentation!

Any small cucumbers work great for pickling. They're often sold as 'pickling cukes' but I'm pretty sure they're just any small variety, not one particular cultivar. Big ones pickle fine too, but often develop a long cavity through the center which is less fun.
