Fermenting mushrooms?

Has anyone here done that? Just searched it and discovered, to my surprise, it's actually a thing. Wish I'd known that when I lived in rural northern Idaho in a place where I could find puffballs much bigger than a softball...

That's awesome. Now I'm wondering why I couldn't use rehydrated shiitake mushrooms. Looking forward to experimenting.
