GBP and water kefir - possible contamination

Has anyone experienced any obvious problems regarding the proximity of these two different cultures (GBP, water kefir) in a long time period?
I want to get myself a ginger beer plant culture and a water kefir culture, so I'm curious about avoiding a possible cross-contamination. I've read that the distance between the cultures should be 1m to prevent this from happening, but I think it is a non-sense as in this proximity it could happen anyway. I've read that someone intentionally mixed them up and ended with the result being different. Which is not a surprise, as the two microbial cultures are obviously different.
